Sunday 23rd March 2014 saw the start of the Spring Series and Academy. A frosty, rainy and windy morning greeted us and fishing prospects didn’t look good. Throughout the day fish were very few and far between, however, a good turn out of very keen anglers meant that if fish were out there they would be caught. Jack Stansfield drew fancied peg 6. An early fish and a few bites when no-one else was catching put Jack into the lead, however, there were still a few hours left. On the other side of the lake, newcomer to Lymm AC, Ben Foster, was using the long pole on peg 14 (car park) to feed a few micros and maggots ensuring feeding was kept tight. His 13m line to the island started to see activity around half way through and two nice skimmers meant that he overtook Jack for the lead. Next door, Megan Higham, who was fishing her first match, managed to sneak in a skimmer late on meaning that on a day where fish were elusive, she shot straight up the leaderboard.
Winner on the day, Richard Hansley, left it very late. Throughout the day he fished straight out in front for small fish and kept a few pellets going in down the edge which paid off big time! Two carp caught on GOT Expander Pellet near a recently removed tree stump saw him take first place with style. Richard did really well to steer the fish away from snags and sneak a landing net under the fish, he managed to lose one to the snags. Richards winning weight of 5lb 10oz of prime carp Ben’s three skimmers all caught at 11-13m
